Swan Derby at Lake Mirror: aerial coverage for a live event

The assignment
For the 2026 Swan Derby at Lake Mirror in Lakeland, Clanton Media worked with the MABE production team to provide aerial coverage. The assignment was focused: give the event team a wider view of the swan boats, waterfront and surrounding activity while the day was already moving.
What we made
The selected images move from the dark orange sunset over the lake to the boats, racecourse and waterfront action. Each frame shows a different part of the event. A ground camera can show the people and detail; a carefully placed aerial can show the course, water and scale of the gathering together.
Project perspective
Lakeland’s Swan Derby is a free, family-friendly annual fundraiser at Lake Mirror that supports Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. The event includes swan paddle-boat races, music, food, family activities and fireworks, creating a large live environment with many things happening at once.
Clanton Media worked alongside the MABE production team to provide aerial coverage. Our role was focused on drone perspectives that could establish the lakefront setting, show the scale of the event and complement the broader live-production effort without representing the full program as our own.
For crew-support work, the best footage is built around the needs of the larger team. Clean establishing passes, responsible coordination and a disciplined handoff matter as much as the final images themselves.
Why it matters
Dedicated aerial support allows the rest of a production team to stay focused on its own roles. The operator can work through position, safe operation and timing while the event team captures speakers, guests and activity on the ground. That division is what makes aerial coverage useful on a live event.
