Live aerial coverage for the SFC Carrier Cup

A broadcast from the flight deck
The 2026 SFC Carrier Cup brought offshore sport fishing and a live broadcast to a memorable setting: the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Charleston Harbor. We joined the TBN production crew to provide live aerial coverage, contributing views of the ship, waterfront and event surroundings to the larger show.
Sport Fishing Championship built its broadcast set on the carrier's flight deck, with watch-party activity and a Brian Kelley and Friends concert also part of the weekend. The setting was central to the event. From above, the relationship between the broadcast, the historic ship and Charleston Harbor could be seen in a single frame.
Showing where the event was happening
Our aerial photographs move from the full ship and surrounding water to closer views of the flight deck. The bow and side views give the carrier its scale. Wider frames bring in Patriots Point and the Ravenel Bridge, placing the event within the harbor rather than showing the broadcast set in isolation.
Each perspective offers something different. A wide view establishes the location. A closer angle shows how the event occupies the deck. Together, the photographs make a complicated setting easier to understand without needing a long explanation. They also show why aerial coverage can be useful alongside cameras working at ground level.
One part of a larger production
Our role was live aerial support within TBN's production team. The drone views complemented the cameras, presenters and other elements of the broadcast. Coverage also continued into the evening for the concert on the flight deck, as the look and atmosphere of the setting changed.
For this kind of assignment, a strong image also has to be useful to the people putting the show together. Timing, communication and a clear understanding of the aerial operator's role matter. The work is about contributing the right perspective to the production, with the surrounding team free to concentrate on its own responsibilities.
Aerial coverage with a purpose
For a production company planning live coverage, we can discuss where an aerial view would add something useful, how it fits the show and what support the assignment requires. The same questions apply to a stadium, waterfront event or large outdoor gathering. We want the coverage to feel like a considered part of the program, with a clear role and a practical plan behind it.
